Callaway Golf CEO Brewer: Too Early to Determine LIV Golf’s Impact on the Company

Callaway Golf President Chip Brewer told Wall Street analysts this afternoon that it’s still too early to tell if the fight between the PGA Tour and upstart LIV Golf tour will have any impact on his company’s sales or its marketing initiatives.  Callaway Golf earlier this summer suspended its endorsement contract with Phil Mickelson, following Mickelson’s comments about the PGA Tour and his jump to LIV Golf.

“We’re not sure how to think about that at this point,’’ Brewer said. “It’s clearly getting a lot of attention. It’s an interesting and important aspect for golf. Whether LIV ends up being a good thing or a bad thing is to be determined.’’

In other words, Brewer and Callaway are no different than most of the interested golf world. That is, in a “wait and see’’ mode,

“I don’t think at this point it has a specific impact on us as an equipment manufacturer or as a brand,” he said.  “It’s certainly a topic of a lot of conversation and debate around the game of golf. In fact, it might even be giving golf a little added conversation value.’’
