Montecito Club Merges SoCal History With Private Club Appeal

Beautifully nuzzled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and Pacific Ocean,  90 miles north of Los Angeles, the Montecito Club perfectly blends Santa Barbara, CA.,  culture and history with all the amenities of a modern day private club. Its timing is impeccable, too. Fresh off a $119.5 million renovation, the Montecito Club is reaping the rewards of its history, as well as the renewed popularity of golf and demand for private club memberships around the country.

Completed this past April, the renovation included returfing the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course with Platinum TE Paspalum grass and enhancing other amenities, such as crushed oyster shell bocce ball court with underground LED lights; a 25,000 square-foot. pool complex with a kids splash pool; two rim-flow lap pools equipped with underwater Bluetooth speakers; and outdoors sports complex featuring two pickleball courts, basketball, beach volleyball, soccer field, badminton, a 15-foot-high sledding hill and batting cage.

The turfgrass renovation follows a 2019 s course renovation by Nicklaus Design that included natural elevation changes, with views of the Santa Ynez Mountains, Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands.

Plans for this year include a new putting course and golf simulator building with Full Swing technology.

Distinguished Connoisseur Club Memberships at Montecito Club include exclusive benefits across owner Ty Warner’s portfolio of properties, including the legendary San Ysidro Ranch, located less than 10 minutes down the road. Warner – the billionaire businessman of Beanie Babies fame –  changed the name from Montecito Country Club to Montecito Club in order, he said, to give it a more private image.

“We took what used to be a golf club that primarily focused on golf only and created a club that appeals to everyone,’’ said Kelly Campbell, director of membership sales for Ty Warner Hotels & Resorts.  . You can bring your whole family and there is something for everyone to enjoy. Not only do we offer amenities that no other Club does, but the detailed design also stands out as best in its class. Throughout the Club you will see all solid African mahogany doors hand carved in Fez, Morocco, custom-designed Swarovski Baccarat chandeliers, and museum-quality Zillig tile mosaics.

While the name has changed, the Club’s history is as storied as any in Southern California. It was founded in 1918 as a nine-hole golf course – believed to be among the oldest in California. Warner purchased the property in 2004. Historic photographs of Hollywood celebrities who played in various tournaments the Club has hosted throughout the years are on on display on the clubhouse

“Montecito Club honors the legacy of the property while imparting a new luxury standard that caters to multi-generations,’’ Campbell said. “The amenities that were added to the property and the craftsmanship that was put into the renovation are beyond what you would see in your average club.

“This club not only caters to multi-generations with its wide array of amenities, but also gives every member the opportunity to explore individual passions. It’s a club that celebrates family by offering something for everyone.’’
