Mitchell Robbins will tell that he always has believed that dining at Farmer’s Table restaurant, which he co-owns with Joey Giannuzzi in Boca Raton, is a country club experience – just without all the country club amenities.
“More like a community,’’ is how Robbins describes the popular health-centric eatery at the Wyndham Hotel Boca Raton.
Now – about 30 miles to the north – Robbins brings those country club and community vibes to the real deal. That is, the North Palm Beach Country Club. The North County version of Farmer’s Table, which opened this past December, is the centerpiece of the club’s new 24,000 square-foot clubhouse, as well as a driving force that is expected to elevate North Palm Beach Country Club’s stature and visibility throughout South Florida.
Having a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course is a big starting point in creating credibility and visibility (the Golden Bear lives in nearby Lost Tree Village), but as many golf clubs – public and private – struggle to attract new players, golf is no longer the “carrot’ that leads them to a facility. More and more golf clubs – in South Florida and beyond – are looking for other ways to create business.
Thus, a restaurateur with Robbins’ expertise and reputation, is an ideal fit for a facility such as NPBCC, which is looking to establish a higher profile on the course and off the course. But, Robbins said, it wasn’t necessarily an easy sell to Village of North Palm Beach leaders.
“I think they were looking for more a bar-type experience,’’ Robbins said. “But when we went up and looked at (the plans), we saw something that was so much bigger than they ever envisioned. We just thought it was such an extraordinary environment.’’
So extraordinary, Robbins said, that his company invested more than seven figures into the clubhouse project. The result is a relationship that features a restaurant with golf course (and sunset) views, lounge, a private dining room and banquet facilities. Robbins’ team also in charge of the on-course food and beverage operation, as well as soon-to-open snack shack near the pool, which can be easily accessed by golfers.
Farmer’s Table North Palm Beach CC’s breakfast, lunch and dinner menus basically mirror that of its Boca Raton counterpart, meaning guests receive fresh, health conscious dishes such as Pan Seared FTA Salmon, Kombucha Brick Chicken, and Pastaless Vegetable Lasagne. Looking for a good mid-day dish? The Pulled First Cut BBQ Brisket is a “must have.’’
“Delicious food with a healthy twist,’’ Robbins said. “Many places have great golf views, but very few have the ambience and food emporium of North Palm Beach Country Club. You really get the full experience from golf to the lounge to eating good food. It’s really a good experience in a public domain.’’
