It’s no secret that the restaurant industry has been hit hard by COVID-19, with millions of industry employees still looking for work.
To help rebuild an industry that has given him so much, Sanjiv Razdan, former COO of Sweetgreen, launched GLEAM Network, a non-profit volunteer-based organization that provides mentorship and leadership development to under served professionals in the food service industry.
“The world around me and the restaurant industry in specific was crumbling bit by bit due to the devastation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic” said Sanjiv. “I was not traveling or commuting to work, allowing me to have this massive chunk of time to do things that I quite frankly had never really had the time to do before. I thought to myself, get in touch with a few trusted former colleagues and forge a network of leaders that want to pay it forward by mentoring others and supporting them in their leadership development.”
From inception, Sanjiv was determined to build an organization that provided low/no cost access to all programs, including executive leadership training, 1:1 mentoring, and bi-weekly learning circles helmed by the industry’s most inspiring leaders. Together with his Board of Directors, Advisory Board and team of volunteers, Sanjiv has been able to quickly move his mission from concept to life.
In only 10 months, GLEAM has had more than 200 mentees and mentors go through its programs. GLEAM also has have received support from national brands including Bluestone Lane and Popmenu.
GLEAM will launch the first programs of 2021 in mid- March, including the Emerging Leader Program that will focus on Multi Unit Managers and above; Support Center / HQ / Professional Managers levels; and the Executive Mentor Program targeted towards Director level and above.
If you are interested in paying it forward and volunteering as a mentor or if you are restaurant/foodservice professional looking for a mentor to take your career to the next level, GLEAM invites you to apply online at https://www.gleamnetwork.net/mentoring.
