Celebrated Chef Laurent Tourondel on Nov. 18 will open Scusi Trattoria, a coastal Italian culinary experience in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. One of the more anticipated South Florida restaurant openings of the past several months, Scusi Trattoria will offer a variety of traditional entrees, pastas, pizzas, and small plates. The eatery – located in PGA Commons – will serve daily lunch and dinner (and eventually Sunday brunch) service in more than 5,000 square feet of dining space.
“The food, flavors and experience I’ve brought together in Scusi Trattoria honor my early years in the European countryside- Sunday suppers with my Italian grandmother made with love from fresh-from-the-garden produce, slow-cooking sauces, and handmade pastas,” Tourondel said. “My hope is that every guest that comes to dine at Scusi goes home satisfied with a taste of a time when life was simple and delicious.”
Developed around the flavors and influences of coastal Italy, Scusi Trattoria’s prolific menu pays homage to the food of Tourondel’s earliest memories, combined with inspiration he continues to find in today’s global culinary arena.
Wood baked branzino, skirt steak with a tomato panzanella, and swordfish with a rosemary polenta will be among the restaurant’s signature dinner entrees, while paccheri with veal bolognese, meat-stuffed agnolotti with sage brown butter, and bucatini with clams in a white wine sauce are a few of the featured housemade pastas.
A generous menu of wood-fired pizzas is comprised of classic and innovative options, including mushroom and truffle, fennel sausage, egg and mushroom, and clam and guanciole. Veal and pork ricotta meatballs, octopus with smashed potatoes and Bigeye tuna crudo can be found on the antipasti menu, while additional salumis, insalada, cicchetti side plates and contorni family-style vegetable dishes will also be available.
The dessert menu will be centered primarily around gelato and sorbet in classic and unanticipated flavors, such as lemon ricotta and pistachio-orange marmalade, complemented by a variety of dessert wines and liqueurs.
For lunch, a curated version of the dinner menu is available, plus a pasti del giorno menu of “afternoon or evening” options, including veal chop parmigiana and a prosciutto and artichoke sandwich.
Scusi Trattoria’s open kitchen is fit with white marble countertops. Terracotta tiles is accented by grand blue-glazed tile pizza ovens. At entry, a wraparound bar connects seamlessly to the outdoor space beyond. Classic European chairs, natural materials, custom wood banquets, plush cushions, antique mirrors, and feature walls showcasing a ceramic plate collection each evoke the rich and inviting energy of an Italian coastal town.
