Pollo Perfection in South Florida for National Fried Chicken Day

How do you follow up a Fourth of July? Chicken, of course. National Fried Chicken Day is July 6. With that in mind, here’s some of my favorite South Florida spots for fried yard bird.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your appetites. On National Fried Chicken Day, Saturday, July 6, celebrate your gastronomic right to pollo perfection.

City Cellar (West Palm Beach)

Chef Rolando Anoceto will be serving up a Southern-style chicken sandwich soaked in buttermilk and double-dredged for extra crispiness. The sandwich is loaded with pickles, gem lettuce, and a tangy three-mustard honey sauce.

American Craft Aleworks (West Palm Beach)

Dish: Located on eastern end of Clematis Street, this new gastropub and brewery will serve craft brew and an ale-brined crispy chicken sandwich topped with lettuce, onion, tomato, smoked jalapeno aioli, and served with hand-cut fries.

Dish: Chicken ‘n’ Watermelon ‘n’ Waffles
Yardbird Southern Table & Bar is a Miami staple when it comes to classic Southern cooking and all-around hospitality. The restaurant serves unique takes on Southern fare, with dishes such as the Chicken ‘n’ Watermelon ‘n’ Waffles. This dish is made up of crispy fried chicken that has been prepared to perfection through a 27-hour brining process, Vermont sharp cheddar cheese waffles, and spiced chunks of watermelon. For an indulgent finishing touch, top it off with the hot honey sauce and bourbon maple syrup.

Ember (Miami)

Dish: Smoked Fried Chicken
Brad Kilgore doesn’t disappoint at his recently-opened American-fare inspired restaurant Ember, serving up gourmet comfort food. Think Mozzarella Stick Ravioli, Roasted Cornbread Custard, and Smoked Fried Chicken. The organic, free-range chicken is smoked, brined overnight then dunked in a batter that fries to a crunch. To top it off, Kilgore pours over a decadent caviar butter with shredded spicy pickles on the side.

Komodo (Miami)

David Grutman’s contemporary Southeast Asian restaurant brings a different flare to the traditional Southern staple of fried chicken and biscuits. Komodo’s Korean Fried Chicken features a chili glaze and sweet truffle honey, served in a take-out box with a side of warm scallion biscuits.
