Guests aren’t seeing Red at Resort at Longboat Key Club

For better or worse, perception often is reality. Jeff Mayers, general manager of the Resort at Longboat Key Club, wants to focus on reality. In this case, it’s Red Tide along the beaches of the terrific Southwest Florida resort.


No doubt that the toxic algae severely impacted tourism to the region late this past summer, but Mayers now is signaling the “All Clear,’’ for what remains the Fall season and heading into the Winter season.

Mayers even his putting his property where his mouth is, as the Resort at Longboat Key Club has re-launched its “Toes in the Sand” package to highlight the property. The package includes a $75/day food and beverage credit. Look for another package offer launch for Cyber Monday later this month.

“The beach is gorgeous,’’ Mayers said. “There were a couple of days we had some build-up on the beach, but we managed the beach like we do every day. We have a company that maintains it, so it’s it manicured and pristine regardless of the circumstances. We are fortunate to have this slice of paradise.’’

In addition to the Toes in the Sand package, to help get out that message, the 223-room resort, which features 45 holes of golf, a 291-slip marina and eight restaurants, has been posting pictures (with taglines) of the beach and surroundings on social media.

“It shows people what the beach really looks and alleviates any concerns they might have,’’ Mayers said. “What I’m seeing now is a resurgence in bookings.’’
