Cinco de Derby is South Florida and beyond

Let’s be honest. Any day in South Florida is a good day to party. But when Kentucky Derby Day and Cinto de Mayo each fall on the same day – as this Saturday May 5, hole old on to you sombreros and Who Nellie!.

Here’s a list of some of my favorite party spots for, well, Cinco de Derby:

Venue: Lolo’s Surf Cantina

 From authentic Mexican cuisine to cocktail and beer deals, decorations galore and an unparalleled crowd of people celebrating the fun holiday, Lolo’s is celebrating from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Venue: E11EVEN Miami

Guests can listen to Elephante take over the DJ booth while enjoying $3 Coronas and $3 Avion Tequila shots until midnight. The party starts at 10:00 p.m.

Venue: El Vez

Description:  Award-winning restaurateur Stephen Starr’s highly anticipated El Vez is opening in the W Fort Lauderdale. Complimentary bites including grilled carnitas, El Vez signature guacamole, chips and salsa and grilled corn will be served. Margaritas — frozen and on the rocks by the glass or pitcher — along with Mexican and craft beers, and signature cocktails, will be available for purchase. The oceanfront location is ideal for a fiesta with an indoor-outdoor bar and plenty of entertainment including an appearance by El Vez himself, the celebrated namesake Mexican Elvis impersonator, lawn games, a photo booth with props, and a performance by Mexican electronic music project Sweet Electra. For the celebration El Vez will host a social media contest. Entry to the fiesta is free and it is open to the public.

Venue: KINGS Dining & Entertainment Doral

Description: The party at includes a special on Mint Julep Margaritas, a Derby Race Contest with a $100 reward, a live DJ, dining and bowling options andmore.

Venue:  Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar | Various Locations

It’s time to #witnesscinco. Rocco Mangel, is hosting seven fiestas at Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar in Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and as far away as Orlando and Tampa. Each party will have drink specials along with live entertainment, DJs, prize giveaways and of course free tequila pourings by Rocco and “Team Cinco.”’

Venue: The Backyard at The Confidante Miami Beach

The Confidante will be offering a sweet and spicy Pineapple-Jalapeno Pop paired with a Margarita in The Backyard, as well as a Bloody Maria special (bloody mary with tequila) during breakfast at Bird & Bone starting at 11 am then $10 margaritas in The Backyard.


Venue: Duffy’s Sports Grill | North Miami Beach and Kendall locations

 Offering a weekend long promotion in honor of Cinco de Mayo is Duffy’s Sports Grill from Friday May 4 to Sunday May 6. Guests can indulge in three crunchy beef tacos for & $7.99 along with $3 Sauza and $7 Patron margaritas. Available at all Duffy’s Sports Grill locations, visitors can also get the new Watermelon Margarita made with Casa Noble Crystal Tequila, Watermelon Puree, fresh squeezed lime, salt rim and garnished with a watermelon slice.

Venue: Playa at The Diplomat Beach Resort

Located on the beaches of Hollywood, Fla., Playa will be offering an array of food and drink specials including $8 Hornitos Margaritas, $5 Modelo Especial Draft Beer, and $5 Beef or Chicken Tacos.

Venue: Portico at The Diplomat Beach Resort

 Guests are invited to come spend the day at Portico at The Diplomat Beach Resort in honor of Cinco de Mayo where they will be offering up an array of specials including $8 Hornitos Margaritas, $8 Hornitos Tequila Sunrise, $5 Corona Light Draft Beer and $5 Tacos.

Venue: The Taco Stand

The name says it all. Recently making its way onto the food scene in the Wynwood District of Miami, The Taco Stand will serve authentic Mexican dishes and Mexican cervezas, as well as special deals on tacos and cervezas.


Venue: Sweat440

The recently opened fitness studio, Sweat440, on May 7 is offering a Siete de Mayo special edition class. The 40-minute workout will have something for everyone from beginners to fitness enthusiasts with a mix of intense circuits that focus on shaping and toning the lower body and core. From 5:50 a.m. – 1 p.m., or from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m, Sweat440’s classes are broken up into four 10-minute stations allowing you to jump into or out of a class at any time #NeverLate. Oh, and all first-timers get their first class free.
