The next time you’re tempted to play tees you know are too long to match your game, consider this from Jack Nicklaus. The greatest golfer in history doesn’t let his ego get in the way when it comes to choosing tees these days.
“I’m playing senior tees now,’’ Nicklaus said at the Dec. 13 re-opening of The Legend Course at The Club at Ibis in West Palm Beach. “I played Bear’s Club (his club in Jupiter, Fla.) last week from the members’ tees (around 6,600 yards) and played a hybrid or fairway wood into every darn par four.
“I said I’d never do that, but I am. I’m getting older (77) just like everyone else.’’
Nicklaus will play this week’s PNC Father/Son Challenge at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando with his 15-year grandson GT.
“He hits it seven miles. All kids do,’’ Nicklaus said with a smile. “He finds it occasionally.’’
