Boston’s on the Beach in Delray Beach continues to crank out some great live music, particularly with Blue Tuesdays.
Here’s a look at this month’s lineup:
Oct. 3: A Tribute to Don Cohen. Hosted by “Famous” Frank Ward, October kicks off with The Don Cohen Reunion Show, a special tribute spotlighting Cohen’s remarkable contributions to the South Florida music community. From jump blues to R&B and gospel, the evening will spotlight the smooth sounds of the finest blues artists from the Mississippi Delta to Memphis.
Oct. 10: The Chris O’Leary Band. Combine the musical stylings of the West Coast, Chicago, and New Orleans, and you’ll get the unique sounds of The Chris O’Leary Band. Time spent living in the New Orleans French Quarter brings a bevy of influences to O’Leary’s singing, playing, and songwriting style. The band’s debut album Mr. Used to Be won the 2011 Blues Blast Music Award for New Artist Debut Release, and also received a 2011 Blues Music Award nomination for Best New Artist Debut.
Oct. 17: Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88’s. Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88’s have been the torchbearers of American blues musical heritage for two decades. Taking their inspiration from the jump ‘n’ boogie outfits of the late 40s and 50s, they are bringing to life the music that gave birth to rock ‘n’ roll. Woods styled his group after the jumpin’ and jivin’ bands of Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, brothers Joe and Jimmy Liggins, and Roy Milton. Sprinkle in a dose of New Orleans rhythm and blues, lively piano, and playful lyrics, and the group created their own brand of music they call “rock-a-boogie.”
October 24: JP Soars Gypsy Blue Revue and The Red Hots. South Florida resident JP Soars kicked off his dynamic music career in the heavy metal, hard rock, and swing genres. Today, Soars is best known for his stylistic versatility as a blues guitarist, composer, and arranger, and also his expressive vocals. Recent accolades include a 2012 Blues Music Award nomination for Contemporary Blues Male Artist.
October 31: Jeff Jensen Band. The Jeff Jensen Band, an American blues band, has been rocking around the world since 2004. The group plays hundreds of shows each year, including regular spots at West Coast blues festivals, and they even opened for B.B. King during his 80th Birthday Tour. The band’s last two albums, Road Worn and Ragged and Morose Elephant, enjoyed positive press and reviews, and Jeff Jensen received consecutive (2014 and 2015) Blues Blast Music Award nominations in the Sean Costello Rising Star category.
