In honor of Ernest Hemingway’s birthday on July 21, 50 Ocean in Delray Beach will offer the Papa Doble, a rum-drenched libation, which the legendary author famously enjoyed at El Floridita bar in Havana, Cuba.
“Hemingway preferred stiff drinks that weren’t too sweet,” said 50 Ocean Bar Manager Nicole Lajoie. “Our rendition pays homage to the original classic cocktail, but we added maraschino cherry juice at the end for a sweet kick.”
50 Ocean’s Papa Doble is a rich and understated blend of Bacardi Carta light rum, layered with freshly-squeezed pink grapefruit and lime juices, maraschino cherry juice, and a splash of simple syrup.
The Hemingway Lounge at 50 Ocean is a great spot enjoy bespoke cocktails and sumptuous small bites. Steeped in the glamour of an earlier era, the lounge showcases original black and white photography of the Hemingway throughout his life.
The Papa Doble is priced at $10, but will be available for $5 only on Papa’s birthday.
