Calaveras Cantina is hosting a special fundraiser for employee Dustin Lackford on July 7. This past March, Lackford was seriously injured in a He was emergency medevac’d to St. Mary’s Trauma Center where he had his crushed kidney removed and was treated for numerous breaks and injuries.
Following his treatments, and a prolonged coma from the traumatic brain injury he suffered, Lackford is now awake and slowly improving, but his medical bills are piling up.
Calaveras Cantina, the popular Mexican eatery in Jupiter, Fla., on July 7 will donate 100 percent of all sales directly to Lackford and his family. The evening will include live music with DJ, raffles and giveaways throughout the event and the chance to enjoy the restaurant’s award winning culinary creations and libations.
“We were devastated when we heard what happened to Dustin,” said Calaveras Cantina Owner Curtis Peery. “We are a close team at Calaveras, and every single one of us has been rooting for him. This is our way of stepping up to do what we can to help him.”
In addition to the Calaveras Cantina fundraiser for Dustin Lackford on July 7, there is a GoFundMe page set up for those who may not be able to attend, but still wish to help: https://www.youcaring.com/nancydustinlackford-784864.
“Right now, Dustin needs to focus on getting better,” Peery said. “He has already beaten the odds waking from his coma, but it is going to be a slow recovery. I personally know this is a very caring community. Dustin is one of our own, and we ask that everyone in the community join us in supporting Dustin and his family during this challenging time.”
