I was a burrito and taco guy more than a fajitas guy until I met the Skirt Steak Fajitas at Cantina Laredo at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla. Piled high and with out-of-this-world flavors, the Skirt Steak Fajita is the highlight of the popular Mexican-themed chain’s menu.
It’s not often I find myself lavishing such praise on a chain eatery, but I’m making an exception this time around, not only for the skirt steak fajitas but with such items as the Ahi Tuna Tacos and the Tamale Tacos.
The Ahi Tuna Tacos is another dish that worth the visit to Cantina Laredo. It’s also a favorite of Executive Chef Edgar Diaz.
“They’re a nice starter,’’ Diaz said. “I have a flair for Asian (cuisine), so this is an excellent blend of Old World to New World. I try it every day.’’
Of course, you can’t do Mexican without guacamole. Laredo Cantina has an outstanding guacamole prepared tableside and to order to customers’ tastes.
“It’s really the only appetizer that we have on the menu where you can say ‘No’ to this but I’ll take more of that,’’ Diaz said. “We allow you to basically customize it to your needs. That’s especially good for families with kids who don’t want a lot of spices or seasoning.’’
I’ll take mine with extra spice.
