Society 8 Hospitality Group has opened its new concept, Park & Ocean, located at Fort Lauderdale’s Hugh Taylor Birch State Park on East Sunrise Boulevard. The casual eatery sits amid a shady grove on the Southeast side of the park along A1A, facing the Atlantic Ocean. Park & Ocean offers a fresh, fun menu and its own in-house brewery, Shady Brewing featuring cold-brewed coffee, teas and soon-to-come craft beer, plus full access to the park and its activities.
“Given the opportunity to work with Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, we decided to develop a concept that is truly unlike any other here in Fort Lauderdale,” said Steven Dapuzzo of Society 8 Hospitality Group. “Park & Ocean combines the natural elements of its surroundings, with tasty fare and a laid-back, beachy atmosphere to offer a one-of-a-kind experience. Shady Brewing also adds a cool, trendy element that will embody the essence and culture of Park & Ocean through its freshly-brewed iced teas and cold-brewed coffees on tap, and soon – also craft beer.”
Park & Ocean will offer light plates such as the Artisan Cheese Board; and bowls and salads, including the Superfood Salad made with quinoa and kale and the Acai Bowl topped with gluten-free granola, honey drizzle and shaved coconut.
The menu also includes a variety of handhelds including tacos, with options such as the Mahi Mahi Taco; gourmet grilled cheeses such as the Brisket Grilled Cheese, made with Manchego, sharp cheddar, roasted tomato and grilled onion; and signature burgers.
Entrees include Mojo Pulled Pork served with rice and beans and jalapeño crema. Other highlights from the menu include a variety of smoothies, cold-pressed coffee and house-brewed tea on tap. In addition, Park & Ocean offers and extensive bar list including beers, cocktails, wine and frozen drinks.
“The ideal location within Birch State Park made opening Park & Ocean here a no-brainer for us,” Dapuzzo said. “We’ve developed a concept unlike any other here in Fort Lauderdale. Between our in-house brewery and fresh offerings, guests can enjoy more than a meal with us as they are surrounded by the park’s natural scenery and its activities, all within walking distance of the ocean.”
Park & Ocean has a rustic-chic, 2,700-square-foot interior with warm lighting and reclaimed wood throughout the space. The restaurant can seat up to 60 guests at tables and up to 20 guests at its bar facing the ocean. Outdoor seating is available on the 3,000-square-foot patio area underneath a Sea Grape Tree canopy and can seat an additional 100 guests. Park & Ocean also offers a variety of outdoor games on the patio including giant Jenga, bocce ball, corn hole and chess and checkers tables.
